NEWS: John Neumeier’s Bernstein Dances
Garrett Keast ends successful run of Bernstein Dances with performances in the Staatsoper Hamburg and Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.
Here’s what the press had to say:
“The Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra under Garrett Keast clearly enjoys the shimmering Broadway-style music of Bernstein.” - Hamburg Abendblatt
"... the music is vividly and excellently played by the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, in addition to renowned soloists, pianist Sebastian Knauer and the violinist Vadim Gluzman as well as two singers who are organically involved in the balletic events. Dorothea Baumann and Oedo Kuipers participated in the premiere. Under the direction of Garrett Keast, the musicians let Bernstein's works float in the lyrical parts and dazzle and pulsate like fireworks in the groovy numbers".
- Badisches Tagblatt
"The overture to the musical 'Candide' can be heard three times... In the first round, under the direction of Garrett Keast, it emphasized the rhythmic verve; in the few lyrical moments, it focused on nuances and showed that dynamism is more than speed. The pianist Sebastian Knauer and the vocal soloists Dorothea Baumann and Oedo Kuipers presented Bernstein's songs stylishly and expressively".
- Badische Neueste Nachrichten
"The Philharmonie Baden-Baden, conducted by Garrett Keast and with solo violin Vadim Gluzman, devoted itself competently, passionately and with sensitive restraint to the lyrical sections…”
